Due to operate from Cairns in tropical North Queensland, Australia we offer a new, unique and exciting way to experience the world’s largest living landmark by diving the Great Barrier Reef in a 3 man mini-submarine. The submersibles are three man (one pilot, two customers) mini submarines. When submerged, they operate at ambient pressures, are self-contained, not tethered and free to move to wherever the pilot can maximise the customer experience. They travel up to 4 knots, forwards and backwards, can turn on their own footprint and hover in a stationary position. Each sub is fitted with lights enabling night diving. The subs are effectively large motorised diving bells. Customers duck dive into the sub and once in, sit up the waist in water, the upper half being in a constantly refreshed air bubble. As with any dive, passengers are required to equalise as the sub descends. To enhance the ‘just like diving’ experience, an accompanying safety diver is able to hand into the sub any permitted sea creature for a literal hands interaction with nature. Around 15% of the 2500 daily visitors to the reef will go diving using traditional scuba gear. As you will no doubt know, a much larger number would like to venture underwater but don't because they are uncomfortable with the thought of using breathing apparatus. We offer an alternative method to go diving without the need to wear scuba gear. The huge advantage over scuba diving is that customers can ‘share the moment’ being able to talk to each other whilst the pilot is able to give expert commentary. This is therefore , the only dive experience which allows underwater conversation. The subs appeal to all ages, the young through to seniors who are still young at heart. The submarines also offer an experience to those with disabilities who might otherwise be unable to dive underwater. Cairns is the ‘gateway’ to the GBR with visitor numbers increasing each year. Visitors from China are up 45%. Visitors represent all ages, nationalities, social class and spending power.
